If you've seen Beijing basketball on teevee, you've seen the Nike commercial that cops footage of Marvin singing the national anthem in '83. (And I bet you've also caught the McDonald's pitch with my favorite Os Mutantes song. Don't get me started on that one.) Anyway, if you're not already one of the million DroolTube views on this -- or you weren't watching the actual game back in the day -- behold some Gaye:
The Gaye ad is kinda cool. But, I screamed at the TV when the Os Mutantes song came on. I'm like, ok, breathe--what did they sell the song for....Oh fuck! McDonald's!
A low point for these Olympics.

If that's the lowest point...I'll be thankful. F the Olympics.

i'll vouch for the above-mentioned screaming. it was like "oh this is a great sonnggg.... what the f is this? mcdonalds?

This rendition of the anthem? Blah. He's sung better songs...
I stopped watching the Olympics when the Lithuanian Badmington team got busted for steroids.

Oh, I've seen this ad... I guess they used it because the song is about a "girl." One thing I don't get is eating McDonald's and being a loser is better than winning?

RE: Gaye -- yeah, it's more "awesome weird" and "totally singular" than "super perfect."
RE: Losers -- maybe a better way to put it is that "losers eat McDonald's."

Ela minha menina
E eu sou o menino dela
Ela o meu amor
E eu sou o amor todinho dela
A lua prateada se escondeu
E o sol dourado apareceu
Amanheceu um lindo dia
Cheirando a alegria
Pois eu sonhei
E acordei pensando nela
Pois ela minha menina...
Those are the lyrics that appear in the comercial. When they sing "E acordei pensando nela" near the end it sounds like they're saying "salmonella." My favorite part is:
"A lua prateada se escondeu
E o sol dourado apareceu
Amanheceu um lindo dia"
Which roughly means: The silver moons hides (itself) and the golden sun apears, it's the dawn of a beautiful day."
