The following is a hypothetical bio created by taking user-generated sentences, clauses and phrases from the Last.fm profiles of various black metal and death metal bands. The words are verbatim, and I generally tried to protect the integrity of entire sentences. Otherwise, only the original band names have been removed and some punctuation has been changed:
The band plays blackened power metal, combining various elements of different metal genres in different ways across their discography. Their music is describable in 5 words: loud, blasphemic and very fast. In contrast to some black metal bands the melodies are very extensive and complex. Until early 2000s, the band played rather classical black metal with a heathen lyrical content -- Satanism, anti-Christianity, death, war and the Third Reich -- but soon changed to that of occult and thelemic themes. Although much of their music from the mid-1990s onwards has incorporated electronic sounds, they are also notable as an early black metal band and innovator for post-black metal styles.
As one might expect, the earlier material is a bit rawer and less developed, as the band has matured and progressed with each release without sacrificing intensity or forgetting its roots. Their transition from black to death metal has made them "traitors" in the eyes of some fans, but they have become darlings of the modern death metal scene. The band incorporates distorted vocals and blast beats into their style, as well as keyboard arrangements and high-tempo instrumental solos. A precise definition for their musical genre is discussed by fans and the specialized press alike, often discounting the influences of the band and the composition of songs. Few artists have been able to combine so many sounds without sounding comical or fragmented.
Although eclipsed in popularity by many other, and usually lesser, bands, they have continued touring and releasing classic albums. They've endured censorship, massive lineup changes, infighting, and attacks by religious groups, mass media, government and right wing thugs. Through it all, the band has stood tall and strong and has never compromised one note nor surrendered one inch of ground. The drummer is widely thought of as the greatest death metal drummer around ... he has been and will continue to be an inspiration to the youth of death metal drumming.
ADDENDUM: I apologize for not getting the phrase "viking metal" in there somewhere. I suppose it's implied.
