I give props to Sen. John McCain for his pre-movie public service announcement begging kids not to take guns to school, but the clip (pun intended) is not exactly surrounded by complementary messages. First off, Entertainment Weekly pointed out that the group that sponsored the PSA, Americans For Gun Safety, has a logo that looks like a target. Secondly, when I saw McCain's message twice this past weekend, it was in close proximity to that ubiquitous commercial for the Marines -- the one where Mr. Clean Cut American runs a rusty, spiky gauntlet to do battle with a large, bitchy fire beast. The overall effect is this: HEY KIDS! DON'T TAKE GUNS TO SCHOOL, BUT IF DAD HAS A SWORD IN THE CLOSET, FEEL FREE TO CONFRONT LARGE BITCHY FIRE BEASTS.
